A heartwarming event took place at Skutt Catholic High School on Valentine’s Day 2025!
What began as a quiet morning quickly turned into a hub of energy and laughter as more than 35 Skutt students gathered to support Christ Child Society of Omaha. The group came together to learn about Christ Child’s mission and pack 500 sturdy backpacks with essential baby items, including an impressive 14,000 diapers collected through a school-wide drive.
In addition to diapers, other layette items in the assembly line included soft handmade blankets, onesies, sleepers, thermometers and burp cloths. Each backpack also contained a storybook with a QR code, giving access to dozens more books in more than 50 languages online.
Once packed, the 500 backpacks were carefully organized and delivered by volunteers to Christ Child Society’s partner organizations who direct them to new mothers in need.
Students were encouraged to share their volunteer efforts on social media by posing with a backpack in front of a Christ Child Society backdrop and posting pictures online.
The day before, other volunteers helped prepare for the packing event, setting up the assembly line, hauling in dozens of boxes, and organizing everything to ensure the process was efficient.
According to Danielle Crotty, Skutt’s Assistant Campus Minister, students receive community hours for their service. Christ Child Society is thrilled to collaborate with our youth to nurture a spirit of generosity and foster a lifelong commitment to serving others.
