In late September, students from the sophomore class at Duchesne Academy participated in the Mary Virginia Merrick Day of Service, filling the gym with energy and purpose as they assembled more than 500 layette bags as part of their class retreat. The day began with students unloading vehicles filled with baby supplies and learning about the legacy of Mary Virginia Merrick, founder of the Christ Child Society.
Throughout the morning, the gym buzzed with music and laughter as students packed 504 backpacks—each one destined for a local agency serving families in need. The phrase “many hands make light work” took on new meaning when the Duchesne Preschool class joined in to lend a hand, guided by their older peers. Once the bags were filled, parents of the sophomore class assissted with deliveries, ensuring that all 504 bags reached 24 area agencies.
Special thanks are extended to Campus Ministry Department Chair Scott Quinn, Head of Theology Katie Grudle, the sophomore class and their parents, and the many volunteers who contributed their time and effort to make this day of service a success.
