What volunteer opportunities are there with Christ Child Omaha?

We invite students, high school, elementary students, preschool helpers and college students, to host layette packing events or smaller groups of students are welcome to come our center and put together layettes. We also host sports teams or other school clubs to come and volunteer.

We also invite corporate teams or guilds to come and volunteer at our center or host layette packing events or blanket sewing get togethers.

Blanket sewing is a great way to help Christ Child Society of Omaha and share your talents to support our mission. Sewing blankets is a great activity to do with friends or on your own.

We offer service opportunities to faith formation groups as well as other organizations who wish to help with the work of Christ Child Omaha.

Our Volunteers Making the Difference

Duchesne Students Honor Mary Virginia Merrick’s Legacy
The sophomore class at Duchesne Academy participated in the Mary Virginia Merrick Day of Service, filling the gym with energy and purpose as they assembled more than 500 layette bags as part of their class retreat. The phrase “many hands make light work” took on new meaning when the Duchesne Preschool class joined in to lend a hand. Once the bags were filled, parents of the students assissted with deliveries to 24 area agencies.
Teamwork Home Run Volunteers
This awesome baseball team (and siblings!) came to the Christ Child Center and helped assemble layettes. These hard working baseball buds filled over 100 backpack-style diaper bags with newborn essentials for families in need.
Sewing Blankets
Our generous volunteers share their talents to sew beautiful (and soft!) handmade baby blankets for our layettes. Christ Child Society of Omaha is blessed to have volunteer seamstresses who dedicate their time and hard work to ensure that each layette we give includes a handmade baby blanket. These blankets offer a new mother in need a sense of love, hope and encouragement.
Omaha Quilt Guild Makes Over 560 Blankets
A talented group of textile artists from The Helping Hands group of the Omaha Quilt Guild helped make over 560 flannel blankets to help fill our layettes. The handmade-with-love blankets offer new moms and their newborns a sense of love, comfort and support.
Children's Nebraska Employees Volunteer
Children's Nebraska partnered with Christ Child Society of Omaha as part of their employee volunteer program. Employees helped to prepare and assemble 200 baby backpacks for moms in need, volunteering their time to help further our mission of positively impacting the lives of families in need in our community.
UNO Students & Staff Volunteers
An amazing team of University of Nebraska at Omaha students and staff volunteered their time to pack hundreds of layettes! Their enthusiasm to give back to their community was inspiring.
Generations of Women Giving Back
A lovely group of members and their daughters and granddaughters spent a Saturday morning sewing blankets for Christ Child layettes. The experienced seamstresses helped guide and teach the others how to make these special blankets which provide warmth and care for the mothers and babies who receive our layettes.
