“Be the Light” National Conference Recap

National Christ Child Convention

Eighty members representing 27 Christ Child Society chapters gathered in Bethesda, MD, on September 12–13 for a weekend of connection and inspiration. Centered on the theme “Be the Light,” the conference explored topics such as literacy, planned giving, social media trends, and strategies for welcoming new members.

Omaha members Sue Seline, who currently serves as National Christ Child’s president-elect and  played a key role in planning this inspirational event, along with Jillian Krumbach, Shannon Herink, and Julie Kizer, paused for a photo with keynote speaker Dr. Ben Carson and his wife Candy Carson. Dr. Carson shared a moving reflection on the Christ Child mission, offering insight from both the receiving and giving sides of charity.

Attendees also toured Washington, D.C., visiting national monuments, the gravesite of Christ Child founder Mary Virginia Merrick, and the Opportunity Shop—an upscale consignment store whose proceeds support the Washington, D.C. chapter. The conference was a meaningful opportunity to build camaraderie, exchange ideas, and share insights with fellow members united by the same mission.

The next National Christ Child Convention will be held September 10–12, 2026, in Columbus, OH.
